Along the northern coastline from Sant Elm in southwest, to Formentor in the northeast, the Sierra Tramuntana descends sharply into the sea. With alcoves blasted into the mountains you will find hundreds of caves, small creeks and deep ravines that just wait for to be explored. The southern coast of Mallorca is the opposite of the north. Here one will find miles of long shelving bays with beaches of the finest and whitest sand. This is the area where one finds the sheltered small bays that one can only reach by boat or by a more extensive walk on land.
